Tom Baxter

Raised in Cornwall in a family of folk singers, Tom upped sticks for London at the tender age of 19, cutting his teeth on the live circuit before a successful residency at Bush Hall in Shepherds Bush brought him to the attention of record labels. After a brief fling that turned sour with the major labels, Baxter is out on the road again and flourishing under his own steam. Support on the night comes from Charlie Winston and the Oxymorons and Max Greenwood. Monday, 5 May, 9pm, Róisín Dubh

ILiKETRAiNS

Continuing their trademark obsession with past characters and events, ILiKETRAiNS attempt to illustrate how history repeats itself, and how the human race fails to learn from its mistakes. Strange concept for a rock and roll band, but fairly unique nonetheless. The British band’s output has been described as morose and conveyed with such supreme, spine-tingling, rousing melody and compelling instrumentation that they are sure to win hearts and minds all over the world. Thursday, 8 May, 9pm, Róisín Dubh Tickets from Róisín Dubh on 091 586540 or www.roisindubh.net

Galway Early Music Festival

The return of May brings the return of the international Galway Early Music Festival featuring medieval, renaissance and baroque music and dance. The theme of this year’s festival is Sensuous – A Multisensory Musical Experience so watch out for a little rock and roll, old old school style. Thursday 15 to Sunday18 May, throughout Galway City.
